A young lady in one of my art classes asked me where the stores were as she viewed one of my city scenes that was hanging on the wall in my studio. She wondered where the people would buy their candy and ice cream. She was absolutely right and was most pleased when i showed her this one and another I did, complete with stores. Her smile was reward enough.
My two cows got into the group show by the way. They are with the herd just now, grazing. I'm happy for them.
This is 10" X 14". Transparent watercolor on my fave, Arches 300 lb. cold pressed paper.

Hehe! That would be such fun Pat. Wish we could use those champagne glasses in front of one of the little shops watching all the bright folks wander by. Now i have an idea! I must include some champagne glasses along with shops and flowers in my next village. There must be a street musician too, and a music box man with the little monkey at his side. Even a vendor selling his potions from the back of a gypsy wagon. I can see it all now.

ReplyDeleteWhat fun it would be to visit your village. Are those stars in the sky gingerbread men? The houses remind me of the brightly coloured houses in the villages of PEI!

Pat is bringing her fabulous champagne glasses painting and we can sit on the curb watching all the bright folks saunter by. I don't think there is any crime here either. Now i must pay you a visit......

DeleteSo great to see another little village Ross. so inviting and offers a place to run away to in my head. Love that luminous yellow! whatever pigment that is, it's stunning, and hard to get with watercolour. Whatever it is y9ou're doing, run with it!
ReplyDeleteHi Gena. I do have these runaway places in my head. The luminous yellow could be one of three. For the yellow house on the shady side of the street i used Cad Yellow light. The other yellows are Hansa Yellow Light and New Gamboge. I lay all my shadows down first with a purple mix of Cobalt and Perm. Rose. Then i start adding color. Thanks so much for the comment.

Hello Nancy. So nice to see you here. Thank you also for your confidence. One never knows when entering these things. It all depends so much on the judges and what they are looking for. Yes, the villages are never far away from my thoughts. They are such fun to do and each one leads to another and another. My wife suggested i put a cemetery in one but not sure how that would lend itself to "whimsical". Smile! Perhaps a Tomstone kind of painting with western streets and buildings. Yes, i think that would do just fine.
