I love doing the backgrounds now. 

Once upon a time they were intimidating as it was always a challenge 

to figure out what to do in them. 

Now i see them as a Playground in which we 

can experiment and play with colours.

"Prudence Dear"

Did this a while ago. She's in a gallery in Calgary. 

Trying now to get something going and paint again. The slumps are no fun. 

Yikes! 

I know the best way to deal with it is to just paint. 

My favourite approach is to get out the sketch book and just start drawing. 

It's from the sketch books that the ideas begin to flow. 

The next step is to commit to one or more of these sketches. 

Put them down on canvas or paper. Then paint. 

So far i have about a half dozen drawn and ready to go. 

Just have to grab those brushes! Right?

"Delilah"

This is a favorite model. She belongs to a lady in the Netherlands. 

I've painted her in watercolour and had it published in "Splash 14"
but thought an acrylic 

would be appropriate and much larger too! 

She is on display at the "Ruberto Ostberg Gallery" in Calgary.

"The Girls"

 I have been working on quite a few of these all 12X12 on Gallery wrapped canvas.

They're such fun to do. I see these smaller ones as work studies for larger paintings. 

My plan for the New Year is to get going on some 4 or 5 foot canvases

using these as my models. 

I am so grateful for several photographers on Flickr who 

graciously let me use their photos. I do have some photos i take on my own 

but find all manner of interesting shots by much better photographers than myself. 

They also get quite a kick out of seeing what i have done with their 

beautiful work.

"Morning Star II"

I've painted this sweet girl a few times now from different angles. 

She is a commission for a lady who wanted her for a special spot in her home. 

I was not sure if it would work using red here for the background because there 

is a fair bit of red in the subject, but i really like the outcome. 

Hopefully the client will agree!

"Lo Bello" (Beautiful)

This girl was too hard to resist and needed to be painted. She has also been selected to be in the 8th Calgary Timeraiser. 

This will be the second time i have had the good fortune of being selected for this gala event which is an art related endeavour to raise volunteer hours for select charities. People bid on the paintings using hours which are then directed toward the charity of their choosing. Once the volunteer hours have been completed the winning bidder gets to painting. They have one year to complete the task. The artists are paid ahead of time for the artwork. Everyone benefits.

"Pequito 1"

Here is my first foray into the world of "acrylic". I have to admit it was a lot of fun and cannot wait to begin another. I like the fact you can correct things and move them around as you go. Not so with watercolour of course.  I loved the freedom it affords.
This little guy is a Christmas gift for his master. I need to put the finishing touches on him soon as the 25th is coming fast! 24" X 24"

"Something Different; Wall Murals!"

Well, she arrived! Hooray!  Her name is Amelia and here is a photo of her admiring the Panda floating above her with balloons. It took her arrival to add the life and the magic the murals were waiting for. 

Congratulations to her very happy parents, David and Meagan.

My niece and nephew are expecting a baby in Oct. and asked us to help them with their baby room.

So a wall mural came to be based on the very talented, Jon Muth who happens to be one of my favorite children's book illustrators and watercolorists. His paintings are beautifully simple, and simply beautiful. So we borrowed some of his designs and did up a nursery. I have to say it so much fun, my wife and i are going to do some more. It could turn into a great part-time job i think.  

We also discovered, my nephew David, and his wife Meagan, have some hidden artistic talents and did a fantastic job. They are budding artists for sure. Check out their own blog, "Get Daddy Some Gin".
